“Ani Ledodi Vedodi Li” means “I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me” Song of Songs (6:3). It is said that this is a two-part phrase describing the ideal relationship. “I am to my beloved” expresses our desire to connect and commitment to our Creator, “And my beloved is to me” expresses His reciprocation.
It is also taught that this popular quote is an acronym for the month of Elul. The month of Elul is a time when “the King is in the field.” It is a time when the barriers break between Him and us. We strive to have the same connection between ourselves and our spouses. A connection filled with desire to come closer and truly be one. Not one greater than the other, truly a unit that will always be in perfect harmony.
